Job Description Summary

The Demand Response (DR) Business Lead is responsible for developing and executing the strategy for CLEAResult’s DR business line in our utility and end-use channels across North America. The successful candidate will be a self-driven business builder focused on ensuring success for all clients. This individual will lead with collaboration across CLEAResult’s matrixed organization, possess excellent listening and motivational skills, effectively elevate/accelerate all partner engagements and have a passion for program delivery. The DR / DERs Business Lead will be an expert in the field providing thought leadership on behalf of CLEAResult, our clients and the industry providing market and business updates to CLEAResult staff and executives.
The DR Business Lead is responsible for meeting or exceeding annual revenue targets (delivery of backlog and new sales) and to build momentum for the long-term growth of the business line. This individual is the leader of our DR / DERs activities at CLEAResult and directs a team of functional experts in the DR/DERs business line. Responsibilities include strategic leadership, technology evaluation, DER / DR program design, business development support, program startup and ongoing expert support for the regional team. The successful candidate thrives on designing relevant solutions to meet client programmatic and regulatory needs, competition and working to realize CLEAResult’s vision of a rapidly evolving DR landscape.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set the direction for CLEAResult’s DR business line, including gathering market intelligence, directing program designs for sectors such as Residential, SMB and C&I as well as informing required resources for delivery of contracts. 
  • Manage a team of five demand response consultants whose responsibilities include demand response product development/management, market engagement and direct delivery of DR contracts.
  • Oversee and report on the development of DR sales pipeline from discovery through the RFP, proposal development, interview and launch processes in collaboration with internal DR and BD teams.  Highlight risks & opportunities vs. plan and drive associated actions.
  • Review DR financials including portfolio P&L, business line operating costs, new project budgets, partner pricing frameworks and gross revenue acquisition compared to annual goal.
  • Develop trusted relationships with clients, partners and industry organizations, e.g. PLMA, through face-to-face meetings, knowledge of targeted energy market and regulatory drivers, market engagement trends and technical capabilities of vendors and partners.
  • In collaboration with CLEAResult’s marketing department prioritize and directly support DR Business Line marketing via earned media, development of white papers, presentation at conferences and engagement in various channels.  Serve as a thought leader in DR / DERs.
  • Support contract negotiations between CLEAResult and utility clients. Lead contract negotiations with DR partners and subcontractors that are part of delivery for DR contracts.
  • Lead annual market feedback efforts including voice of customer surveys to identify gaps and opportunities. Act as point of escalation for program and partner delivery.
  • Support the assessment and related engagements in energy market opportunities including capacity, aggregation and auction engagements. Ensure economics pass financial risk/reward thresholds.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, business, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Masters of Business Administration with disciplinary focus on strategy, finance, product development.
  • Strong business management and business development acumen.
  • 10 years’ energy industry experience, at least five of which are in demand response, demand management or distributed energy resources.
  • Five years or more of direct program delivery experience in energy efficiency, demand response, distributed energy resources and/or demand management.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and time-lines.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative, matrixed environment is essential.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including colleagues and staff in CLEAResult regions across North America, upper management, clients, and other functional departments.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities with the ability to leverage both your industry experience and creative approach to overcoming barriers.
  • Exceptional partner management capabilities.
  • Strong verbal, written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Public speaking experience and ability to travel to client meetings and conferences in North America.
